Part 7: Keep Seeking God Until You Find Him
Seeking God is not a one-time experience—it is a lifelong journey of pursuing His presence, knowing Him more deeply, and drawing closer to His heart.
Have you ever searched for something you could not find? Eventually, you stopped looking for it, only to have it show up a few days later. Many times, we stop the search too soon—maybe just before we would have found what we were looking for.
The good news is that when we are seeking God, He is not lost or misplaced. He is not hiding from us so that we cannot find Him. He wants to be found.
He promises that if we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him.
Jeremiah 29:13–14 says:
“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord…”
He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). And He loves it when His children pursue Him and desire to draw closer to Him.
What Does It Mean to Find God?
When I say, “Seek the Lord until you find Him,” I think that could mean different things for different people. Depending on where you are in your journey of faith, finding God may look different.
It could mean:
1. Seek Him Until You Have Assurance of Salvation
You pursue Him until you know that you have the assurance of your salvation and eternal life with Him.
(See Romans 10:9–10 and 1 John 5:11–12.)
2. Seek Him Until His Peace Fills Your Heart
You seek God until His peace floods your life and you are able to rest in Him.
(See Philippians 4:7 and Colossians 3:15.)
3. Seek Him Until You Know Who You Are in Christ
You study the Bible and pray until you have real understanding and confidence about your identity in Him—and you experience the witness of the Holy Spirit that you are His child.
(See Romans 8:16.)
4. Seek Him Until You Receive the Answer You Need
You pray until you receive a clear and specific answer from God. That answer strengthens your faith and encourages you to keep praying, seeking, and asking for more.
(See Matthew 7:7–8.)
These are tangible and experiential things that can happen when we pursue a living and loving God who desires to interact with us as we seek Him.
Seeking God Is a Journey, Not a Destination
But seeking God is a journey, not a destination.
It is a journey into a deeper relationship with Him as we grow in our knowledge and understanding of Him and His ways.
I think David, Paul, and Hosea all had a good grasp of this truth.
David: Seek Him Because You Thirst for Him
David said in Psalm 63:1:
“O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.”
David understood that seeking God was a priority in his life. When he experienced spiritual hunger and thirst, he knew that God was his source and the One to whom he should turn.
Paul: Keep Pressing On to Know Him
Paul expressed this same hunger in Philippians 3:10–14:
“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings…”
Paul went on to say that he had not already attained his goal or been perfected. Instead, he declared:
“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Think about that.
Paul had already experienced tremendous encounters with God, yet he still desired more of Him. He understood that we never fully “arrive” at knowing all there is to know about God.
The more Paul knew Him, the more he wanted to know Him.
Hosea: Pursue the Knowledge of the Lord
The prophet Hosea said:
“Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord…”
—Hosea 6:3
Hosea understood that we should not simply be casually interested in knowing God. We are invited to pursue Him.
There is intentionality in pursuit.
There is persistence in pursuit.
There is passion in pursuit.
Keep Seeking Him
Once again, seeking God is a journey into a deeper relationship with Him.
He invites us to come closer.
Pursue Him passionately.
Seek Him wholeheartedly.
Get to know Him intimately.
And when you find Him—keep seeking.
Because there is always more of Him to know.
We never fully arrive, but the prize is in the pursuit.
Questions for Personal Reflection
- Where am I right now in my journey of seeking God? Have I been pursuing Him passionately, or have I become spiritually comfortable?
- Is there an area of my life where I may have stopped seeking too soon? Is God inviting me to begin seeking, asking, or praying again?
- What am I spiritually hungry or thirsty for right now? How can I follow David’s example and bring that hunger directly to God?
- Can I honestly say with Paul, “That I may know Him”? What is one practical thing I can do this week to know Jesus more deeply?
- What would pursuing the knowledge of the Lord look like in my daily life? Is there a habit, distraction, or priority that needs to change?
